Kyoto Gakuen University at a glance

Founded in 1969, Kyoto Gakuen University is a general university located in Kameoka, adjacent to the internationally-renowned city of Kyoto. It is comprised of five faculties- Economics, Business, Law, Human and Cultural Studies, and Bioenvironmental Science.

The city of Kameoka is blessed with abundant natural scenery, and boasts a high quality lifestyle and comparatively inexpensive cost of living.

Kameoka is only 15 minutes from Kyoto city by train, meaning that students have easy access to a wealth of traditional Japanese culture.

Students in the Faculty of Human and Cultural Studies have many opportunities to take courses at the university's Kyoto Machiya campus, located in the centre of Kyoto city. Machiya are traditional merchant houses and symbols of Kyoto's cultural heritage. Kyoto Gakuen University is the only university in the city to hold regular classes in its 120-year-old machiya site, and students come from all over Japan to take classes of traditional Japanese culture and language. Students studying at the Machiya Campus are able to participate in one of the three major Japanese festivals with the local community, as well as other cultural events.

Kameoka is also about an hour's train ride from the most foreign consulates in Osaka.
